The Brazz Brothers will be on their way to South Africa again on the 26th September to start up a new tour with Women Unite. They will be launching their new CD ”South Afro Brazz – Live in Cape Town” during this trip.
The CD was recorded at Waterfront last year and has already been released in Norway. From 28th September to 4th October, they will be performing 8 concerts and workshops in Cape Town and Guguletu together with Women Unite. Two concerts will be played at V & A Waterfront and two concerts will be played at Mannenbergs Jazz Club,

The last part of the tour will be in cooperation with Norsk Kulturskoleråds project ”Umoja”. There will be a two day workshop in Krugerdorp north of Johannesburg, to then end of with three Umoja festival concerts at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg. The mom of Africa, Miriam Makeba will also be participating in one of the concerts. The concerts in Johannesburg will be played during the evenings of 8,9 and 10th of October. There are many performances planned for radio and TV both in Johnannesburg and in Cape Town. Hopefully this will have a positive effect on the CD launch who will be given a professional and good distribution in South Africa.

The Brazz Brothers were invited by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bucarest to visit Rumania between 12-14th September. The Brothers started out with a smashing outdoor concert together with the Rumanian Radio Big Band. The concert took place at the Revolution Square in the middle of Bucarest. Thousands of people had come to hear the concert which was held during the annual Artexim festival. This is the biggest festival in Bucarest.

The two bands met again the day after, on September 13th to do another concert. This time in the Radiohouse in Bucarest. The special event was that the Norwegian Primeminister Kjell Magne Bondevik was meeting with the rumanian Prime minister Adrian Nastase. There were 800 people invited and they were very pleased with the concert. The Brazz Brothers were overwhelmed with the arrangements that the Norwegian Embassy had put together.

We would like to give our warmest greetings to Ambassador Leif Arne Ulland and his enthusiastic staf in Bucarest. We have yet again been a part of an exciting ”cultural meeting” which is becoming a bit of a trademark. It was a well organized setting and it’s not every day that we get to play ”Kjerring Knut’n” and ”Lokkeslått” with such great jazz musicians as the ones in Rumanias Radio Big Band.

New CD on October 15th!

A new CD will be launched this fall by the danish record company Gyldendal/Exlibris with Benny Andersen, Povl Dissing and The Brazz Brothers.

Benny Andersen and Povl Dissing are Denmarks most famous artists. Povl Dissing has lifted Benny Andersen’s happy melancholic lyrics through 30 years to an over ecstatic audience. There’s probably not a soul in Norway who doesn’t know the classic ”Om litt er kaffen klar”, but the songs about Rosalina are not as famous. This was Benny Andersen’s big love, and these are songs that are warming, cheerful and wise. They are all about the most important thing in our life; love. Some of these songs were performed during the concert when prince Henrik married his very own Mary in May this year. These songs are now compiled to a CD for the first time, featuring The Brazz Brothers as co-musicians and organizers.

The music is recorded from a concert in Store Vega in Copenhagen, and thelaunch will take place in Denmark.

African Marketplace

The Brazz Brothers have for over 10 years collected musical impressions from Africa and they have on a regular basis worked closely with the Norwegian Royal Navy Band who also have a great interest in African music. They have performed tours together with African musicians in Norway, Tanzania, South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland. They have collected insight and understanding during all these projects for a culture that is completely unique.

The Musical result can be listened to on our 3 CD recordings with African Music. “Afrobrazz” (1993), “Ngoma” (1999) and “South Afrobrazz” (2003)

We have now in cooperation with the Royal Navy Band come up with a whole new concert programme with African inspired music made for a large orchestra. During March we performed 4 concerts with the new programme and it was a bit hit! The places we visited were Arendal, Risør, Grimstad og Ski. The whole concept is based on musical scetches from our many visist to Africa. They are based on African dances, moods and melodies. You will also find music which is inspired by the members of The Brazz Brothers’ own opinion and feeling about Africa.

Possible union with Michael Jackson? Michael Jackson’s manager Rolf Hanson (Great, great, great grandmother from Brummendal – hence the name Hanson) contacted The Brazz Brothers last week with an overwhelming request. Michael Jackson has surprisingly enough decided to fix his nose up further. He is offering The Brazz Brothers enormous amounts in order to buy one of the brothers’ noses!! ”He wants to start fresh”..is the comment mentioned in the fax. The Brazz Brothers clearly see the point of having enough nose to slice into, men the brothers are in deep need of their noses themselves – at least for the rest of the year. The Brazz Brothers have got a new Sennheiser wireless microphone system delivered by Lydrommet, Oslo. The new microphones gives The Brazz Brothers even better freedom on stage, compared with stationary microphones. The new sytem: Sennheiser Evolution System. Occupational Injury Marcus Lewin has informed us that he has sent a person down to South Africa to check all stage floors. This is a result of Marcus’ total fear of collapsing stagefloors after his fatal accident in 2003 where he actually jumped through the floor in Honningsvåg. Believe it or not, but during the third jump of the Masai dance the floor collapsed and Marcus fell all he way down to a long forgotten orchestra pit. All the remaining band members could see on stage was the top of a black hat – 2 meters below. Marcus layed down to check if he was dead or alive while the blood was running from several wounds. This was of course at dress rehearsal, and after 10 minutes he was back behind the drums. Talk about ”playing pressure”! The thought was to try and write this off via the company Brazz Broz AS as an occupational injury, but nobody has replied to his request yet, but then again – this might be a question about money. FULL TERROR ALERT IN OSLO SPEKTRUM There was a full blown terror alert in Oslo Spektrum during the annual Military Tattoo. Military orchestras from all over the world, including the USA were gathered together in Oslo’s largest hall to show their musical and precision skills. It is a common event that The Brazz Brothers is the main attraction for these millitary happenings. (The members have an average of 14 days millitary practice added up-) A mysterious black suitcase was discovered next to the drumset during one of the rehearsals. Could it be a bomb? The terrorist squad were immidiately called and the whole of Oslo Spektrum was evakuated. The suitcase was sniffed on by bomb dogs and carefully opened by specially trained terror robots whilst the police were hiding behind large bags of sand. They were a bit disappointed when they realized that the suitcase was only filled with cd’s that weren’t even very interesting. The Brazz Brothers failed yet again in getting rid of the overstock from their record company. FIRST HOTEL NOBLE HOUSE The Brazz Brothers' hotel in Oslo. Dip your lips in red wine. A vast number of people all over the West suffer from recurring cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus. Any number of over-the-counter treatments for this ailment are availeble, but the rapid mutations of the virus often render them useless. Scientists at the University of Kent in the UK are now having a go at this hardy virus with a brand new weapon - red wine! At the annual meeting of the Amarican Association of Microbiologists, the group unveiled their research showing theat a certant compound found in red wine effectively controls multiplication of the HSV1 virus that causes cold sores to appear. Unlike current medications, the new compound attacks the virus in the early stages of its life cycle, knocking out two enzymes essential to growth.
