Stein Erik Tafjord
Tuba
Stein Erik was among the first students graduating from the Norwegian State
Academy of Music in Oslo in 1979, with tuba as his main instrument. After
many years with The Norwegian Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra in Oslo, he
became freelance as a jazz and studio musician. As an improvising musician,
Stein Erik has develop a highly untraditional style of playing, which has
influenced composers and the public to become much aware of this very exiting
instrument. Stein Erik has also toured with several internationally composed
orchestras such as the Scandinavian Tuba Jazz Inc., Carla Bley Scandinavian
Jazz Ensemble, the European Broadcasting Big Band (EBB) and Jazz Baltic Ensemble.
Stein Erik teaches jazz tuba playing at the Norwegian State Academy of Music
in Oslo and is a «Buddy» jazz-price winner in Norway.
